Five people taken to hospital after bus crashes into block of flats

Five people have been taken to hospital after a bus crashed into a high-rise block of flats in Renfrewshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Hamilton Court in Calside, Paisley, at around 12.20pm on Wednesday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent a range of resources, including ambulances, special operations response teams, a trauma team and a critical care paramedic.

Three patients were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, while two others were transported to Glasgow‘s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing.”

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area as a number of road closures have been put in place, including in Calside Avenue, Polsons Crescent, Craw Road and Alexandra Gate.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Five people, one of whom was the driver, were taken to hospital by ambulance crews and our immediate thoughts and concerns are with them at this time.

“At this stage it is too early to know what caused the accident, but McGill’s personnel have been in attendance and are working with police on the post-incident investigation and will continue to do so in the days ahead.”
