A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a 7-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run collision in Walsall.
The girl, named locally as Amelia Wood, was struck by a motorcycle on Turnstone Road in the Blakenall area at around 7:00 pm on Thursday.
She was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further treatment, where she died of her injuries.
The boy, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police, said: “This is an absolutely tragic event which has resulted in the death of an innocent child.
“Our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are appealing for anyone with any information about the crash to come forward.
“We know that a motorcycle was involved and we would like to hear from anyone who saw it before or after the collision.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the rider of the bike or who may have any other information about the crash.”
